Green Tea is the Cup of Life

With latest studies centered on Green tea, the wonder tea’s benefits seem to be growing endlessly long. We are familiar about the healing properties of Green Tea when it comes to chronic troubles such as constipation, arthritis etc. Now scientists have uncovered yet another valuable trait that Green Tea possesses: Keeping eye diseases at bay.

This is attributed to Green Tea’s capability of reducing oxidative stress in the eye.

The study by experts on Green tea and its role in preventing eye diseases has been published in ACS’ bi-weekly Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Glaucoma and other eye diseases affect majority of the senile population across the world. Experiments conducted on rats have shown that specific substances namely Catechins found in Green tea can fight eye related diseases.

Green Tea “Catechins” are absorbed in different proportions by the parts of the eye it was noted. Retina absorbed the highest percentage of gallocatechin. Another type of antioxidant, epigallocatechin was absorbed in maximum proportion by the aqueous humor. “Our results indicate that green tea consumption could benefit the eye against oxidative stress,” researchers’ said.

Green Tea has been known to mankind since almost 500,000 years if archeological evidence is to be believed. Since then its role in preventing cancer, lowering cholesterol, preventing artery diseases and many more disorders has been revealed.
